Charting new waters

When I was a kid, I loved to write. When I was in elementary school, a friend and I started writing a little "newspaper" that contained stories about the goingson around the school, from a kid's perspective. It was a real hit! Throughout my junior high and high school years, I continued to love to write for English classes, and according to my teachers, I was good at it. I have always enjoyed words, and to this day I appreciate a good new word. However, throughout my college years, writing became less fun, but only because I was required to write so much, and I was doing it for a grade and not for fun. However, now that I am getting to be a "grown-up", I am thinking I like the idea of returning to my childhood love of writing, and writing about things that I like to talk about.

However, blogging is a bit out of my comfort zone, but just because I have never done it before. The medium has changed, but the fun of putting thoughts into words is still there. The thing is, as I sit here, my mind is racing with all kinds of great topics that I would love to write about that would benefit our customers. As a lawn and landscape contractor, each season we are faced with new opportunities to optimize our outdoor surroundings...that's our business. Season to season, year to year, our methods have to be adjusted to jive with whatever mother nature is sending our way. It's a dynamic environment we work in. And it's exciting! And this whole blogging thing will give me a way to easily disseminate information that is usable to our customers.

In the coming weeks and months, I hope to be able to share not only information about our company and what we do, but also what homeowners can do to beautify their outside environments, from proper mowing, watering, and lawn care techniques, to landscape care and warnings about specific insect or disease burdens we may be experiencing. It is amazing the "low hanging fruit" that exists...little things that folks can do to help them enjoy their outdoors more. So in my "maiden voyage" post, I encourage you to please drop me a line and let me know if there are questions or specific topics you would like to read about. I am looking forward to dusting off the keyboard and getting back into it.
